The Force Awakens at Disney World

When my brother and I decided to go to Disney World during the Christmas holiday we intended to see The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights at Hollywood Studios because 2015 is the last year they are being shown. What we didn’t realize was that our trip coincided with the release of the new Star Wars movie [Episode VII]. Disney had a special event that we splurged on because how often does this happen?

The movie release day [Thursday, December 17] was very exciting. My brother and I started the morning waiting in line at Disney Springs [formerly Downtown Disney] to pick up our event tickets and swag bags. After this we went to Hollywood Studios where we played in the parks and met some characters before returning to Disney Springs to wait for the movie along with a few thousand of our closest friends. After walking the red carpet into the theater and waiting a couple of hours we finally saw the movie [don’t worry, no spoilers]. After, we went back to Hollywood Studios for a special ticketed event to celebrate the release of The Force Awakens.

This party at Hollywood Studios was full of Star Wars nerds and it was fantastic. We were offered Yoda’s favorite drink [green tea frappuccino] while walking down Sunset Boulevard. Our first stop was Aerosmith’s Rock-n-Rollercoaster because it was Star Wars themed just for this event and did I already mention NO LINES? Yes, there were a lot of people, but not enough to have long lines [awesome!]. After nerding out on the Rock-n-Rollercoaster we rode Tower of Terror because once again NO LINES! Then, of course, we made our way over to Star Tours [Star Wars ride]. After this we backtracked to the main stage in the center of the park where there was a DJ and dance party happening while waiting for the special Galactic Spectacular fireworks. These fireworks were fantastic and synchronized perfectly to Star Wars music. We slowly made our way to the exit after the fireworks because it was almost 2am and we needed some sleep.

Well done, Disney!
