Mini “Out West” Trip

When you realize you have 5 days off from school and work what should you do?

The answer is look up flights, book something cheap and go from there. Lucky for me, one of my good friends was able to join on this spontaneous trip.

We landed in Las Vegas around 10pm and stayed at the Flamingo, which is on the strip. We only paid $70.00 ($35.00 each) and ended up with a suite so no complaints here. After exploring some hotels and casinos we decided to call it a night because we knew we had a long few days ahead.

The next morning we got up and made our way out of Las vegas, but not before stopping at Whole Foods for much needed travel snacks. We made our way to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park with occasional stops for photos [duh!]. We checked into the Red Feather Lodge and set back out to finally see the Grand Canyon, which was only a few minutes away from the Lodge.

When we got to the parking lot for Horseshoe Bend we were surprised by all of the cars and other travelers there. We made the short mile walk in and then had trouble keeping our jaws off the floor and our eyes off of the stunning view. This is definitely in my top 5 of the most breathtaking views I’ve ever seen.

Horseshoe Bend

After finally closing our mouths and peeling our eyes away from the Bend, we made our way to Zion National Park. If I thought my jaw was done dropping then I was surely mistaken. I love everything about this park and can’t wait to get back there to explore more. We did a few different hikes, but my favorite [that we had time for] was definitely Angel’s Landing. This is the scariest hike I’ve done [so far] because the last portion is extremely steep and there’s a chain rope for you to hold onto. This probably adds to the fear, but there’s a steep cut-off on either side of you as you climb higher and higher. The view at the top is so worth it and on the trek back down is so much easier.

Our last morning, we went for a short hike before having to make our way back to Las Vegas. Our flight didn’t leave until after midnight so we had enough time to grab a bite [or two] and explore some casinos before making our way to the airport.
